This year’s festival will feature more than 30 films from the Belpaese, which will come to screens across the nation.
With the full program set to be officially announced next month, you can already expect a compelling season complete with an array of diverse genres.
One of the most anticipated films is Sergio Castellitto’s new drama ‘Fortunata’, which earned leading actress Jasmine Trinca an award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Another box office hit set to venture to Australian shores is ‘L’ora legale’, featuring comedy duo and actor/directors Ficarra and Picone, who took home the award for best comedy at Italy’s Nastri D’Argento awards ceremony.
Light-hearted irony is on the agenda with two other films which will see the return of two familiar faces: director Luca Miniero with his latest film and actor Toni Servillo in Francesco Amato’s ‘Lasciati andare’.
Documentary fans can look forward to ‘Napoli ‘44’, narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch and inspired by the autobiography of English military official Norman Lewis and his experience in the capital of Campania during World War II.
There will also be a focus on schools, which will be able to book screening sessions for ‘Troppo Napoletano’ (From Naples with Love), a romantic comedy that follows the journey of an 11-year-old in love.
The festival will kick off in Sydney on September 12, before hitting Adelaide on September 13, then Melbourne and Canberra on September 14, followed by Brisbane, Perth and Hobart.
