To celebrate the return of all Victorian students to the classroom, following the easing of restrictions imposed by the government in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus, we bring you some historical images of students from the Italian community in Melbourne.

The photographic journey includes an image dating back to 1870 of the Yandoit State School, attended by the children of Elisabetta and Battista Righetti, as well as a photo of a school basketball team posing in front of the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto at St Georges Church in Carlton.

We wish all students the best upon their return to school!

Do you recognise yourself in one of the photos in the slideshow above, or do you know the story behind any of the moments captured?
