Carlton, Coburg, Footscray, Brunswick, Werribee and Williamstown were just some of the Melbourne suburbs where Italian migrants settled, started businesses, bought properties, founded clubs and associations, and lived their lives.

Among the iconic places was the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto at St Georges Church in Carlton, designed by Father Ugo Modotti and inaugurated in 1942, where many Italians took group photos of weddings, baptisms and communions.

Another example is the La Scala theatre in Footscray, which was inaugurated in 1957 and very popular with the local community.
