Acerbi allegedly called Juan Jesus a “n**ger”.

Napoli on Monday published a tweet from its official X account against racism.

“From Naples to the world, shout it out loud: no to racism,” said the tweet, which has a video with Napoli players framed in close-up saying phrases in their own language against racism.

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti said that while Acerbi has denied uttering a racial slur against Jesus, attention is needed on racism.

His comments came in his explanation as to why the Nerazzurri defender was dropped from the Italy squad travelling to the US this week for friendlies against Venezuela and Ecuador.

“It is a huge regret to [have to] make decisions for these [kinds of] episodes,” said the former Roma and Napoli coach.

“But we have to be careful, even when we denounce such an episode.

“We saw Francesco in trouble, but we have to be careful with our behaviour, we have responsibilities,” he added.

“From what Acerbi told me, it is not an episode of racism.”

Asked if he had heard from Juan Jesus, he replied: “He’s not answering, his phone is switched off”.

Acerbi came out on Monday strongly denying the accusations.

“Racist phrases from my mouth have never come out,” said the Inter player.

“That’s the only thing I can say.

“I know I’ve never said racist phrases, I’ve been playing football for 20 years and I know what I’m saying. My conscience is clear.”
