“When I got back from Le Mans, I kept feeling pain in my right ankle,” tweeted the reigning champ and standings leader, who crashed out of the French Grand Prix at Le Mans on May 14 after being rear-ended by Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales.

Bagnaia and Vinales were competing 22 laps from the end when contact on a risky overtaking move caused both riders to crash out of the race.

Tempers flared and Vinales confronted the championship leader and shoved him before the pair were separated.

“I decided to undergo a further medical check at the Misano medical centre, which found a partial fracture of the anklebone.

This will not prevent my participation in the next Italian Grand Prix,” he concluded.

Bagnaia still leads this year’s championship heading into Mugello, on 94 points, one point ahead of compatriot and fellow Ducati rider Marco Bezzecchi, with KTM’s South African Brad Binder on 81 points, followed by Spaniard Juan Martin on a Ducati on 80 and Frenchman Juan Zarco on another Ducati on 66. Australia’s Jack Miller is in 8th spot on his KTM on 49 points.
