Bologna took the lead in under nine minutes when Zirkzee had the easiest of finishes into an empty net after goalkeeper Benoit Costil parried an earlier shot directly into his path.

Zirkzee had his second in the 20th minute when he intercepted Matteo Lavato’s poor attempt at passing back to the keeper, before dribbling around Costil for another finish into an empty net.

Simy got one back for Salernitana in the 75th minute with a shot from the edge of the box after a clever backheel assist by Antonio Candreva.

The loss leaves Salernitana bottom of Serie A.
