The move has split the southern Italian home of the pizza, where the art of pizza making has earned UNESCO status.
The local association of pizzaioli said “this is something else entirely from our tradition”.
Some aficionados said they feared a rise in prices, but other pizzeria owners said the move might raise their own profile.
