The controversial proposal comes as part of the debate on its security bill.
The commission would evaluate, with “respect for constitutional principles”, cases of sexual violence where there may be the possibility for a convicted felon to give consent to psychiatric and pharmacological treatment.
Such treatment includes chemical castration, called for by League party lawmaker Igor Iezzi and green lighted by the government.
The measure was first announced by Iezzi this summer and had been proposed for a long time by the MP’s right-wing League party as a solution to the spate of rapes and gender-based violence in Italy.
Iezzi on Wednesday said the measure would “introduce pharmacological treatment for total androgen suppression for convicted rapists”.
He claimed it will “reduce the risk of recidivism for this atrocious offense” in what he described as a historic battle of the League.
