With 60 per cent possession and over double the scoring opportunities, Cagliari will be disappointed not to come away with all three points.
The home side thought they were ahead through Marco Mancosu’s wonderful volley, but Gianluca Lapadula was adjudged by VAR to have been interfering from an offside position.
Lapadula made up for it in the 30th minute however, when the Peruvian international forced a good reflex stop from Sudtirol keeper Giacomo Poluzzi, before slotting home the rebound from the floor.
Sudtirol almost equalised through Matteo Rover whose one-on-one strike was brilliantly saved by Boris Radunovic.
Lapadula went close to scoring his second from outside the box but it was hit straight at Poluzzi.
With only minutes remaining, Sudtirol were handed a lifeline in the form of a penalty for handball against Gabriele Zappa.
Larrivey made no mistake from the spot, cooly slotting it to the bottom right-hand corner and sending the keeper the wrong way.
Both teams are still comfortably in the promotion play-off zone.
