Cagliari have staged an epic comeback to beat Parma 3-2 at home in the first leg of their playoff tie.
Parma scored in the tenth minute thanks to Adrian Benedyczak who finished off a deft lay-off from Simon Sohm.
Sixteen minutes later would see Sohm go from provider to scorer when he picked up the ball on the edge of the box, dribbled his defender and finished into the near post.
Cagliari went into halftime 2-0, but an exceptional second half followed.
In the 68th minute, halftime substitute Zito Luvumbo volleyed in an inch-perfect cross from Nahitan Nandez.
Five minutes from the end of fulltime, Cagliari were awarded a penalty for a challenge on Luvumbo who beat his opponent to the ball.
Gianluca Lapadula stepped up and finished the penalty, opting for power over placement.
Four minutes later, Luvumbo solidified himself as the hero for Cagliari when he turned one opponent in the box, dribbled away from two others and then blasted the ball into the roof of the net past a diving Buffon.
Cagliari go into Sunday morning’s (Australian time) return leg in Parma with a 3-2 lead.
