ACT Health Deputy Chief Officer Dr Vanessa Johnston said a woman in her 20s had contracted the virus while overseas “some time ago” but wasn’t tested during her 14-day self-isolation period on her return to Australia as she no longer had symptoms.

“Recently this individual presented for testing after developing new cold-like symptoms and returned a low positive result,” Dr Johnston said.

“Our investigation identified that this person has not been infectious since before finishing their self-quarantine.”

Dr Johnston said a small number of the woman’s close contacts have been identified as a precautionary measure.

The ACT has now recorded a total of 107 coronavirus cases, including three deaths.

Canberrans with symptoms are being urged to get tested.

“The more people that get tested the better chance we have of identifying any undetected cases that might be in our community,” Dr Johnston said.
