Com.It.Es NSW, the organisation dedicated to the welfare of Italians abroad in New South Wales, has introduced a new online guide to assist Italian citizens planning to move to Australia.

This new resource aims to provide crucial information to help Italian arrivals integrate and make the most of the opportunities available in Australia, whether they’re here for short stays or long-term residence.

“We’ve recently noticed an increase in Italians moving here after the pandemic restrictions were lifted,” said Com.It.Es NSW president Luigi Di Martino.

“For this reason, we’ve decided to make a digital guide available to our compatriots.”

The guide is specifically aimed at young Italians, offering information in a simple and concise manner to help them navigate their new home.

It covers essential aspects for newcomers, irrespective of the reason they’re here or what visa they’re on.

“This guide provides up-to-date and reliable information on visas, labour rights, taxes and consular services,” Di Martino added.

Interested parties can access the guide by visiting the official Com.It.Es NSW website here.

In conjunction with the guide’s launch, Com.It.Es NSW has also introduced a series of informational videos on its social media channels that address topics of interest to Italians abroad.

The first video in the series explores the important topic of registration with AIRE (Registry of Italians Resident Abroad), and explains the procedure involved.

These videos are produced as “reels”, a format that will no doubt be familiar to avid social media users, and are available on various platforms, including YouTube.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, the Italian community in Australia saw a significant boost.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) website, as of June 2023 there are approximately 171,000 Australian residents who were born in Italy, which is a slight increase.

The gradual reopening of borders from November 2021 allowed Italians to start travelling and settling in Australia, provided they were fully vaccinated.

Local Italian communities, already well-established, have played a crucial role in supporting newcomers and maintaining cultural and social ties.

Despite the initial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the adaptability of the Italian community has contributed to its recovery and the continuation of its long history in Australia.

With these initiatives, Com.It.Es NSW is committed to supporting Italians who choose to live in Australia, assisting them during this big change to a new cultural and social environment.
