La Strega dominated possession with 64 per cent while both teams created 12 chances.
Benevento went ahead in the 30th minute when Ilias Koutsoupias’ shot was saved by Abibi who pushed the ball directly into the path of Diego Farias.
The striker’s shot still had to beat two defenders blocking the goal, and it did.
Perugia had a number of opportunities, but Nicolo Manfredini was in fine form.
Eight minutes after the break Perugia was awarded a penalty for a handball against Gaetano Letizia.
Francesco Lisi beat Manfredini who picked the right way.
Perugia went ahead in the 58th minute thanks to a diving header from Samuel Di Carmine who attacked Giuseppe Di Serio’s flick-on after a corner.
Benevento scored an equaliser in the 91st minute when Camillo Ciano finished off a nice sequence of passes with a ferocious shot that was too strong for Abibi.
Perugia were gifted a goal by the most pathetic piece of defending possible at this level.
Maxime Leverbe received the ball from his goalkeeper before playing a back pass half a meter away and just leaving it for Christian Kouan to run on to and finish into an empty net.
Benevento finish last while Perugia finish 18th and will join them in Serie C.
