The number of people taken to hospital for the coronavirus fell for the fourth straight week, FIASO said, down by 22 per cent in the first week of the new year.

“[But] the pressure on hospitals is not letting up because of the rise in flu-linked pneumonia cases, which are set to rise further after the impact of the return to schools sets in,” said FIASO President Giovanni Migliore.

“We are sadly seeing severe cases of pneumonia linked to flu in intensive care units.”
