Organised by the Board of the Father Atanasio Gonelli Charitable Fund, in collaboration with the Italian Network of Melbourne (NOMIT) and supported by media partners Il Globo, La Fiamma and Rete Italia, the day-long fundraiser will help the thousands of young Italians on working holiday visas and other temporary visa-holders currently stranded in Australia.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is a difficult, challenging time for the whole community,” chairman of the Father Atanasio Gonelli Charitable Fund, Cav. Felice Montrone OAM, said.

“But it’s especially tough for the thousands of young Italian men and women who have lost their jobs and, due to the current travel restrictions, have found themselves unable to return home to their families and loved ones in Italy.

“They’ve been stranded with no family support and are finding it hard to cope financially, struggling to pay their rent and buy everyday food and necessities.

“Over the past 30 years, Australia has opened its borders to thousands of young Italians, by providing the working holiday visa program, which has allowed young Italians to come to Australia and experience the generous, laidback and friendly nature of Australian people.

“This Easter, we’re calling on the community to please lend a hand, by making a donation, however big or small, ensuring we can provide urgently needed grocery vouchers and financial assistance to these at-risk, young Italians at their time of need.”

The radiothon fundraiser will be broadcast on Rete Italia on Easter Monday, April 13, 2020, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, on the following frequencies:
