They were the first of around 2000 victims who will migrate to Australia as part of an initiative by the Australian government.
Representatives of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Consulate were at the Melbourne airport to greet the new arrivals, alongside members of the Liberal government.
Members of the Italian community in Melbourne also welcomed the group with flowers for the women, baskets of fruit and sweets for the children, and cigarettes and gift packs for the men.
Other gift packs were supplied by private and public companies for future use.
The new arrivals will be temporarily housed at the Maribyrnong Migrant Hostel, while some were hosted by local Italian families over the weekend.
A second group of 70 earthquake victims will arrive in Melbourne by air on March 17.
They will be followed by a third group of 120 people, who will travel by sea on the Marconi and arrive in April.
Donations for the new arrivals can be made to the Comitato Italiano di Coordinamento.
Only non-perishable items should be donated.
