An explosive device was set off overnight outside a migrant reception centre at Dorgali, near the Sardinian city of Nuoro.
Though nobody was seriously injured, Italian investigators confirmed that the device could have been deadly.
Two of the centre’s residents suffered minor injuries as they got out of bed following the blast to investigate.
The explosion tore down a door and caused major damage to one wing of the structure, where 64 migrants and two of the centre’s employees were sleeping.
No suspects have been named at this stage.
