It was a sudden and unexpected death, although he was not in the best state of health, especially since the recent passing of his wife Maria, who died less than two months ago.

Mr Randazzo was a journalist, author of many books and plays, historian and expert on Italian migration to Australia, senator for the Italian Republic and a brilliant advocate of Italian and Australian culture, with deep roots in his Aeolian identity.

He was the editor of Il Globo for almost 30 years, and always undertook his work with great passion, commitment and an unquenchable thirst for news which he possessed for the entirety of his lengthy career in journalism.

After a lifetime dedicated to informing his readers and making important and complex news articles accessible to the Italian community in Australia, he also spearheaded historical campaigns to protect the rights of immigrants, and was an important representative of the Italo-Australian community in their liaisons with Australian civil and political authorities.

In 2006, he was elected as a senator in the Italian Republic, during the first election in which Italians were allowed to vote.

The management and staff of Il Globo-La Fiamma and Rete Italia are united in their grief at his passing.
