Former Rai state broadcaster CEO Carlo Fuortes was chosen on Wednesday to be the new superintendent of Naples’ San Carlo theatre.

San Carlo is the world’s oldest opera house, having opened in 1737.
Rome-born Fuortes, 63, left Rai in May citing disagreements with new government policy and appointments at the broadcaster.
The appointment, which must now be approved by Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, was announced by Naples Mayor Getano Manfredi, chair of the foundation that runs the opera house.
