The home team had 62 per cent of the ball and created nine chances to Ascoli’s 14.
Cremonese had the lead in under a quarter of an hour when Massimo Coda rose to head in a cross by Franco Vasquez.
Ascoli had their equaliser 12 minutes later when Giacomo Manzari accidentally blocked his team mate’s header, but the ball fell kindly and he kicked it in.
Coda had his brace on the hour mark when he sent a through ball from Vasquez into the far-bottom post.
Three minutes later and Cremonese’s Giacomo Quagliata was shown a second yellow card for a slide tackle.
Ascoli rescued a point in the 88th minute when Pablo Rodriguez got on the end of what was initially an excellent save by Mouhamadou Sarr to put the ball in from close range.
Ascoli’s Giuseppe Bellusci was shown a second yellow in added time for a reckless challenge in an attempt to win the ball.
It was an important point for Ascoli as it got them out of the relegation playoff zone.
