A network of defibrillators has been installed across the ruins at the modern-day town of Ercolano. They are illuminated, high-visibility, alarmed-fitted and remote-controlled clear cases.

The installations are spread around the ticket office, museum and antiquarium, vigilance coordination office, ancient theatre, and administration offices.

One of the peculiar aspects of the archaeological site of Herculaneum is the fact that the conditions of the eruption, due to a different interplay of volcanic flows from that in nearby Pompeii, enabled the conservation of organic material, ranging from furniture to fabrics.

That makes it more fascinating in some respects than its far more famous and much more visited neighbour.
