Draghi had been due to visit oil-rich Angola and the Republic of Congo this week with the aim of shifting Italy’s energy supplies away from Russia.
Italy will now be represented in the trip by Ecological Transition Minister Roberto Cingolani and Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio.
The pair will fly to Luanda on Wednesday and Brazzaville on Thursday to conduct negotiations on Italy’s behalf.
Draghi is currently residing at his holiday home near Città della Pieve in the central region of Umbria, where he had gone to spend the Easter holiday with his family, Italian news agency ANSA reports.
