The biggest annual event of this kind is the election of Miss Australia.
All of the proceeds of the event and state preliminary rounds go towards rehabilitation centres for disabled children in Australia.
Companies, organisations and ethnic communities will present their candidates at this year’s Miss Victoria contest, with the winner going against other state finalists in the Miss Australia contest in October.
Hopefully this year will see a worthy representation of the Italian community at the beauty pageant.
The winner of Miss Victoria will take home a Ford Cortina, a trip to England and trips to Australian cities, courtesy of the tobacco company W.D. & H.O. Wills.
Furthermore, the winner of Miss Australia will be awarded a trip around the world, a range of clothing valued at £750, a Ford Falcon Deluxe, a cash prize of £1500, trips to all the major Australian cities, a range of lingerie valued at £100 and a trophy.

We encourage the Italian community in Melbourne to support this great cause, and we remind our readers that there are many Italian children in these rehabilitation centres who are receiving the most advanced therapy for free.
There are also many children and adults receiving partial rehabilitation at the centres.
