On behalf of the Italian government, a representative from the Italian Embassy in Canberra presented a range of Italian classics by some of the most noted authors throughout the centuries to La Trobe University and the Swinburne Institute of Technology.
It was a short but sweet ceremony void of lengthy speeches; after all, the significant gesture spoke for itself.
The texts will be available to students of Italian at the universities, and will allow them to deepen their cultural knowledge as well as honing their language skills.
We hope that more students continue to study the Italian language and that the feared closure of Italian studies at La Trobe University does not come to fruition.
