The festival’s director, Erwin Rado, announced during a press conference that there will be an Italian presence this year.
Thirty-two feature films will participate in the event, along with 120 short films from 29 countries.
Italy will be represented by Luchino Visconti’s Vaghe stelle dell’Orsa (Sandra), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival last year, and Prima della rivoluzione (Before the Revolution) by Bernardo Bertolucci, which won the Young Critics prize at Cannes.
Three Italian short films will also participate in the festival: the cartoons Il signor Rossi va a sciare and Un premio per il signor Rossi, along with a documentary on Sicily entitled Con cuore intrepido, which also won a prize at the Venice Film Festival.
Another film of interest to the Italian community is the Swiss documentary Gli Italiani, which outlines the prejudice directed towards Italians who emigrated to Switzerland after the war.
The documentary won the Gold Medal at the Bilbao Film Festival.
