Dušan Vlahović headed in the winner in stoppage time to see second-place Juventus move back to within two points of Inter, who beat Hellas Verona 2-1 on Saturday.
Samuel Iling-Junior blasted in the equaliser for the visitors in the 65th minute after the ball found him at the back post.
Salernitana played most of the second period with 10 men after first-half scorer Giulio Maggiore was sent off for a second yellow card.
Maggiore’s goal was a quickly improvised shot with his left foot to beat Szczesny from just inside the box.
