The home team dominated possession with 67 per cent, creating 12 chances to Lecco’s 15.
The visitors took the lead in under 20 minutes when Artur Ionita headed in a cross by Alessandro Caporale.
In the 56th minute, Cittadella were awarded a penalty for a blatant foul on Filippo Pittarello in the box.
Pittarello stepped up to the spot but rattled the post, leaving the home side trailing.
Cittadella didn’t equalise until the 87th minute, when Pittarello got on the end of a save by Lecco keeper Umberto Saracco, who was still on the floor, to head in from close range.
Two minutes later and Cittadella had pulled off the incredible when Claudio Cassano ran into the box after an upward clearance to head the ball over the goalkeeper and into the far post.
Lecco are sitting bottom with just one point while Cittadella are in seventh.
