Antonio Bragato, who spent time in a German internment camp for Italian soldiers during the Second World War, will be back home soon after the operation at Portogruaro, they said.

“Surgeries involving ultra centenarians are very few in number,” said orthopaedics chief Stefano Saggin.

“On this occasion, we came across a real force of nature, from both the physical and medical standpoint.

“Signore Bragato was determined not to give up his mobility for a mere fracture to his femur.”
