After much success with the songs Zitti e buoni and I Wanna Be Your Slave across Europe, the Italian glam-rockers made the ARIA singles chart last Friday, with their cover of The Four Seasons’ 1967 track Beggin’ reaching #22.

The song is currently storming the charts across Europe including #1 in Germany and #10 in the United Kingdom.

Måneskin won last month’s Eurovision Song Contest with Zitti e buoni, and the follow-up has now become the biggest hit by a Eurovision-winning act for nine years.

It also secured Italy’s first win at the international song contest since 1990.

The song went Top 10 on Spotify’s global chart – a first for an Italian artist – and has now racked up over 100 million plays on the platform.

When they collected their Eurovision trophy in Rotterdam, Måneskin frontman Damiano David declared: “Rock and roll never dies.”

As well as David, the band consists of Victoria De Angelis on bass, Thomas Raggi on guitar and Ethan Torchio on drums.

David, De Angelis and Raggi first met each other as students during their high school days in Rome, while Torchio – from nearby Frosinone – soon joined them when they were inquiring for a drummer to complete the band’s line-up.

Måneskin – Danish for “moonlight”, inspired by De Angelis’s half-Danish heritage – were established in 2016 and had a stint as buskers on the streets of the Italian capital.

They came second in the 2017 series of X Factor Italia and, from late 2019 until spring 2020, the band lived in London where they worked on their music style and new material.

After their debut album, Il ballo della vita, went triple platinum in Italy, they triumphed at the 2021 edition of the Sanremo Music Festival in March, whose winner becomes the country’s Eurovision entrant.

The band released their second studio album, Teatro d’ira: Vol. I, in March, before taking to the stage at Eurovision in May.

In June, they went on a European promotional tour, and they are scheduled to perform at a number of major open-air summer music festivals in 2021, including Rock for People in the Czech Republic, Nova Rock Festival in Austria and Rock am Ring in Germany.

They have also announced a new studio album by the end of the year with four concert dates at Palazzetto dello Sport and Mediolanum Forum in December 2021, and the first dates of an upcoming Italian tour starting in March 2022 at Unipol Arena and ending in April at Verona Arena.

The national tour has already sold over 100,000 tickets.

Måneskin are the subject of a praise-laden article recently published in The New York Times, which makes reference to the band’s distinctive image: “With its carefully curated, stylish androgynous nonchalance – accessorised with high heels, black nail polish and smoky eyes – Måneskin breaks down gender barriers and champion self-expression.”

Charmingly down to earth yet intriguingly unique, these four Italians are destined for worldwide domination.
