On Sunday night, Roman rockers Maneskin night won an American Music Award in the ‘favourite rock song’ category for their mega-hit ‘Beggin'.

Fellow candidates for the award included household names such as Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Imagine Dragons and Kate Bush.

The quartet ― Damiano David, Ethan Torchio, Thomas Raggi and Victoria De Angelis ― accepted the prize dressed in elegant suit jackets and ties, with a provocative glam rock twist: slinky suspenders in place of trousers.

“I just want to say for us, as Italians, we’ve not been told many many times that one day we were going to be sitting next to some of the greatest artists in the world. For us, this has kind of a double meaning, it’s amazing for us, we still are trying to figure it out. It’s very surprising for us and we never expected to win this category against these huge huge huge artists, so thank you once again,” Damiano David said in the band’s acceptance speech.

Last week, Maneskin also received their first ever Grammy nomination in the ‘best new artist’ category.

The announcement of the nomination, the 2023 ceremony for which is set for February 3, arrives in the midst of a career defining moment for Damiano, Victoria, Thomas and Ethan, who are currently in the middle of a sold-out US tour.

The band's new album, 'RUSH!' is due out on January 20.
