He argued that it was a bad example.
Meloni said Landini's comments were “'incomprehensible” saying the meeting was taking place on May Day to “honour workers” and show the government's commitment to providing solutions to their problems.
She also suggested that, if the government should not work on May Day, by the same logic, the traditional big concert that trade unions stage in Rome's Piazza San Giovanni on the holiday should not take place either.
“I would remind Secretary Landini that many people work on May 1, from waiters to doctors, the police and the technicians who make the concert in Piazza San Giovanni possible,” the prime minister said.
“Otherwise, we would have to organise the concert on another day”.

In an interview published in Sunday's edition of daily newspaper La Stampa, Luigi Sbarra, the leader of the Cisl trade union, said the government should change its approach and open up to “serious dialogue” with labour groups.
Landini expressed similar sentiments on Saturday.
“It's clear that being summoned on Sunday evening for talks on a measure that has already decided on and which they will approve on Monday morning is not what we have been asking for,” he said.
