“The government is following with great attention the bills on oncological oblivion,” Meloni said in reference to a number of legislative proposals currently before parliament seeking to guarantee the right of people who have recovered from cancer not to have to declare that they have had the illness when applying for a job, taking out insurance, or signing a contract for a loan, for example.

“I have asked Health Minister (Orazio) Schillaci to follow the process and ensure the necessary contribution of the executive,” she continued.

“Our goal is to arrive, as soon as possible, at a law that is capable of providing answers to an extremely concrete problem that greatly affects the lives of so many Italians,” Meloni said.

In Italy cured cancer patients are still required to give information about their past condition, often resulting in discrimination.
