The iconic site has been closed since early November of 2020, though the cathedral remained open for religious services.

There will be new opening times, with the complex open to visitors from Monday to Friday only, 10.00 am to 5:00 pm.

Purchasing a ticket in advance is strongly recommended.

The reopening of the Duomo comes a few days after Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper reopened to visitors.

Up to 12 people will be admitted to see the masterpiece every 15 minutes as it reopens this week, rising to 18 from next week.

However, for now, only people in the Lombardia region around Milan will be able to visit, as Italy’s inter-regional travel ban remains in place.

The regional travel ban, along with restrictions on international travel, has resulted in unprecedented opportunities for residents to visit their biggest local attractions without the usual crowds, whether it’s the Vatican Museums or Colosseum in Rome, or the carnival in Venice.
