What better way to celebrate your first year as president of Club Marconi than to receive the news that the Bossley Park stadium, the most Italian stadium there is, will have the honour of hosting the Colombian national women's football team, that has qualified for the 2023 Australian World Cup?

“I’m very proud, it’s a great achievement, for the whole club and for our community,” commented Morris Licata, president of the Marconi Club, upon hearing the news directly from the state government.

And indeed, he has every right to be proud, since the Italian facility is one of five that have been selected in New South Wales to officially take part in the World Cup. Of these, three are in Sydney and two on the Central Coast.

In the state capital, the Campbelltown Sports Stadium has been chosen to host Korea, while the Valentine Sports Park in Glenwood will be the base for the French women's team. As mentioned, the Marconi Stadium in Bossley Park will host Colombia.

On the Central Coast, European champions England will be based at the Central Coast Stadium and Germany will make the Central Coast Sport and Recreation Complex in Tuggerah their home.

"I am thrilled that the Marconi will host such an important event and can't wait for the curtain to rise," he added.

Cameras from halfway around the world will be there to film not only the girls of the Colombian national team, but also the Bossley Park facility ― which is considered to be Italy's biggest club beyond its borders.

The World Cup announcement was the icing on the cake of a year as president that Licata described himself as being satisfied with.

“We have done a lot, there is still a lot to do, but if we want to continue to grow we must pursue the path of unity. We must work together towards our prestigious goals. We have chosen to focus on big names for events at the club and we have tried to bring Italian associations closer to our structure. I believe the direction being taken is the right one, but we must not stop,” explained the head of the Marconi board.

“As far as I am concerned, I am a person open to criticism and to the ideas of others. I am always ready to listen and even take a step back if necessary. For Club Marconi to live up to its name, we all have to commit ourselves and work hard,” Licata concluded.

And there will be a lot of work to be done over the next few months to ensure that everything is ready for the kick-off of the Women's World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand between July and August 2023.
