Possession was equal with the home team created 11 chances to Napoli’s 12.
A poor back pass attempt gave Victor Osimhen a one-on-one with Braga goalkeeper Matheus Magalhaes, but Osimhen’s shot went straight at him.
Osimhen then headed a corner on goal where a part of the ball appeared to cross the line. Moments later, he had another shot that rattled the crossbar.
Just when it appeared as though Napoli would head into the break level, captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo gave them the lead they deserved.
Osimhen headed a cross down and into the path of Di Lorenzo whose downward volley bounced in off the crossbar.
Braga scored a late equaliser in the 84th minute thanks to a glancing header by Bruma.
Four minutes later and Braga would shoot themselves in the foot with an own goal by Sikou Niakate.
The defender tried to clear Piotr Zielinski’s cross but instead made contact with his knee, sending the ball into the back of his own net.
Braga had one last chance in the final seconds through Pizzi, but his effort struck the post.
Napoli go top of the table after the first matchday.
