Periodicals (magazines and newspapers) published by medium and small enterprises and non-profit organisations are “the expression of a dimension that considers local and specialised media to be a vital resource and an indispensable bulwark of the information system”, Mattarella said.
“The pluralism that feeds the democratic life and freedoms of Italians, guaranteed by the Constitutional Charter, is enriched by the presence of a significant number of independent voices that offer citizens the opportunity to satisfy their fundamental right to be informed,” he continued.
The president said the conference organised by USPI to mark its anniversary is an “opportunity to face the new challenges with renewed confidence, having as a beacon correct information based on mutual respect and the affirmation of the rights of the person and the community, values on which our civil co-existence is based”.
