Professor Sergio Alfieri, a surgeon at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli hospital who has performed operations on Pope Francis, told ANSA on Thursday that he is “very serene” following reports that he has been put under investigation by criminal prosecutors in the capital.

Daily newspaper La Stampa reported that Alfieri is being probed for allegedly making false declarations on official documents.
He allegedly signed off on having done operations that he did not carry out, according to the report.
It said that, in some cases, the documents said the doctor had been in the operating theatre on the same day that he was at conferences and Gemelli hospital meetings.
