The competition has been organised by Co.As.It. in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, in conjunction with IAWCC and Il Globo TV.

Premio In Classe is a national Italian language competition that seeks to promote the Italian language and culture to secondary school students through the engaging medium of film. Participants will use their Italian language skills and cultural knowledge to creatively address the theme of the competition.

The theme of the 23rd edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World is ‘Italian and Sustainability’, with the aim of promoting the culture of sustainability developed in Italy, a country at the forefront of the environmental sector.

Participants, from Years 7 to 12, are invited to submit a video in Italian, lasting no more than two minutes.

Students are asked to interpret the theme Italian and Sustainability from an entirely original perspective, or by creatively interpreting one of the following cues:

How sustainable is our lifestyle? Interviewing grandparents to explore how traditional practices respected the environment.

Which generation is more ‘green’? By asking parents, grandparents or family members what their habits were when they were children and making a comparison to see which generation is the most environmentally conscious.

Are we friends of the environment? Through interviews with people who migrated to Australia, identify what practices they brought with them, highlighting their care for the environment.

Students may also explore the ‘slow food’ or ‘zero kilometre’ movements, which are widespread in Italy and have also arrived in Australia, to present whether and how they can contribute to creating a more sustainable world.

Students will be divided into two categories, one for Years 7-9 and the other for Years 10-12. Each state will have a champion from both categories who will compete for the national title. Winners will receive vouchers and a full-year subscription to Il Globo TV’s premium package, where the award-winning films will also be broadcast.

Videos must be submitted by 5pm Friday, October 6, through the form available online.
