The gala event will take place on Sunday, January 31, at Villa Borghese.
Other special guests to attend the event include Sir Norman Martin, chairman of the Australia Day Committee and the Consul General of Italy in Melbourne, Mario Ferrari Di Carpi.
Prime Minister Gorton said he was honoured to accept the invitation, especially because the Italian community is the first to have placed importance on Australia Day celebrations.
Surrounded by the elegant atmosphere of Villa Borghese, guests will be treated to a sumptuous dinner accompanied by exceptional wine and music from the Duo Moreno.
There are limited tickets available; those interested should contact the CIC at 230 Faraday Street, Carlton.
Tickets are $13 per person, dinner and drinks included.
