Buckingham Palace confirmed the happy news in a statement, which read:
“The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11:00 am on Friday, July 17 at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor. The small ceremony was attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and close family. The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant government guidelines.”
Beatrice and Mozzi have known each other for years, but they didn’t start dating until the fall of 2018, when Beatrice’s sister, Eugenie, married Jack Brooksbank.
Edo, as he is known to close family and friends, proposed to Beatrice during a trip to Italy in September 2019.
“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” the couple said in an official announcement.
“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.
“We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”
They were originally going to be married in London on May 29, with a reception in the Buckingham Palace gardens, but the coronavirus pandemic forced them to change their plans, and postpone their nuptials until Friday’s intimate gathering in Windsor.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, they had 20 guests and were reportedly told to follow social distancing rules.
The official wedding photos were released on Saturday night.
Beatrice looked stunning in a vintage dress by Norman Hartnell, on loan from Her Majesty The Queen, while her new husband was smart in his morning suit.
Like most royal brides, the princess kept the identity of the designer secret until her big day.
Beatrice is the daughter of Prince Andrew and the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II.
She is currently ninth-in-line to the throne.
British media reported that the wedding was deliberately kept secret because of Prince Andrew’s implication in the case of his late friend and convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew denies allegations of having sexual relations with Virginia Roberts Giuffre when she was a sex trafficking victim of Epstein’s.
