Radiologist Gianluca Fanelli has been placed under investigation in Aosta after giving Athena the scan and then performing life-saving surgery at his hospital in the northwestern Italian city.
Prosecutors say he may be guilty of wasting public money and depriving patients of essential services.
Fanelli says the scan was administered at 11 o’clock at night when patients would not have needed scans and has offered to pay back the cost of the procedure.
Athena was left fighting for her life after falling from a sixth-floor window.
“She was more dead than alive,” Fanelli told local media.
His feline friend is now fine after he performed pneumo-thoracic surgery on her.
