Dante, the new film by Pupi Avati chronicling the life of the great poet, recently outperformed the long awaited Dragon Ball at the box office, on October 4.

This figure, taken from Cinetel, was released by ANAC, the National Association of Film Directors.

Reps from the association revealed the figure when they appeared in Mantua, namely, president Francesco Ranieri Martinotti and vice-president Emanuela Piovano, at a conference entitled ‘No cinema without a theatre’, organised by the Italian Federation of Cinema d’Essai (Fice).

Produced by Pupi and Antonio Avati’s independent production DueA, and distributed by O1 Distribution, Dante, the ANAC said:

“The film grossed 56,479.00 euro on October 4 (compared to the 55,979.00 euro amassed by Warner Bros. mega-production Dragon Ball), with a total of 10,138 spectators.

“This is an encouraging and positive figure for Italian cinema, which often takes a road less travelled in pursuit of classic, pure entertainment.”
