Nine ships had been hovering within Queensland’s borders, however five have now left and there are four remaining who are still in the process of refuelling, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said this morning.
“If you do see a cruise ship at a port today or tomorrow, they are just refuelling and then they will be on their way,” she said.
The ships are not carrying any passengers, while crew will not be allowed to leave the ships.
Officials have confirmed that of Queensland’s 934 cases, 119 of them had come from cruise ships that had docked interstate.
Four of Queensland’s five deaths have also involved cruise ship passengers.
“What is very alarming for us is that people had come from these cruise ships into Queensland and we have had four tragic deaths from people who have been on the cruise ships,” the Premier said.
Queensland Minister for Ports Mark Bailey said there had been no coronavirus infections via a Queensland port.
Queensland has recorded 13 new cases of coronavirus overnight taking the state’s total to 934.
Of the current cases, 42 people remain in hospital, with 13 in intensive care and 11 of those on ventilators.
