Palaszczuk said her cabinet made the decision on Monday after the state recorded 60 more cases of the virus, taking its total number to 319.

The move follows decisions from Tasmania, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, South Australia and ACT to impose a 14-day quarantine period on any “non-essential” visitors.

It’s unclear how the new border controls will be enforced given the many roads linking Queensland with New South Wales.

Palaszczuk tweeted that more information on the decision would be provided soon.
