His comments came a day after taking the reins after the shock dismissal of José Mourinho following a derby defeat and a 3-1 loss to Milan at the San Siro.
He also said no parachutes were needed on his new contract.
“I am convinced that neither I nor the team need parachutes, we are a strong team,” De Rossi, 40, said in his first interview with the club’s internal media channel as Roma coach after the Special One unexpectedly got the axe.
“We are a team with important players,” he added, “even the best ones happen to have difficult moments.
“It can also happen to others and if it does we have to be good at taking advantage of it, I think we have all the margins to go up again.”
Then talking about his six-month contract without a renewal option, he said, “‘I didn’t need parachutes on my contract.”
