The royal couple will be awarded a faithful reproduction of the old keys to the Tuscan city by Mayor Dario Nardella in Palazzo Vecchio on Monday to symbolise them being granted freedom of the city.
Prince Charles will also receive the 2016 Palazzo Strozzi Renaissance Man of the Year award for his charity work inspired by the values of harmony, culture and sustainability.
During their six-day visit, Prince Charles and Camilla will also attend a dinner to celebrate the centenary of the British Institute of Florence, meet with Pope Francis in the Vatican, and travel to Amatrice, which was devastated by last year’s earthquakes.
