Possession was roughly even with Sampdoria creating eight chances on goal to Spezia’s seven.

Depaoli gave the home side the lead in under 11 minutes when he raced into the box ahead of his marker to finish Fabio Borini’s whipped-in ball with his first touch.

Rachid Kouda brought the visitors level just five minutes later when Kelvin Amian’s header bounced off the crossbar and into his path for an easy finish.

Tempers were flaring at half time as Sampdoria manager Andrea Pirlo was shown a straight red card for remonstrating with the referee.

Depaoli had his second in the 78th minute when he headed in Ronaldo Vieira’s cross as Spezia goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski stood rooted to the spot.

Sampdoria sit 14th while Spezia find themselves in the relegation zone.
