Curated by Christian Pazzaglia, who cofounded Bangalow Film Festival Ltd with Lyn McCarthy and Ben Alcock, the festival is set to include a selection of film concerts, panels, art exhibitions and special guests.
One of the festival’s partners, the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Sydney, is supporting the festival, which promotes Italian culture in New South Wales.
Bangalow Showgrounds and the A&I Hall will play host to four nights of film screenings, from April 10 to April 14.
Among them are Picciridda (Alone With Her Dreams) by Paolo Licata, and Chef Antonio’s Recipes for Revolution by Trevor Graham.
Picciridda follows the story of a young girl growing up under the watchful eye of her stern grandmother in a small Italian village, while Graham’s film takes viewers behind the scenes of an Italian hotel-restaurant staffed by young people with Down syndrome
Famed Italo-Australian actress, opera singer and cookbook author Silvia Colloca will also feature in the festival, appearing in Little Tornadoes, a film about the many cultural shifts in 1970s Australia.
The festival will return in June with a series of expert round tables on the theme of sustainability.
Dr Alessandro Pelizzon, a senior lecturer at Southern Cross University and an expert in the field of Wild Law and Earth Jurisprudence, will participate in these talks.
Esteemed linguist and filmmaker Helena Norberg Hodge, academic and firefighter Dr Jean Renouf and environmental engineer James Perrin are also expected to take part in the panels.
Organisers have stated that they are “extremely grateful to everyone who has played a part in bringing the festival together”.
