“From NATO comes a message of solidarity in the face of a terrorist act of unprecedented violence, carried out by Hamas, which must not be confused with the Palestinian people,” he said.
Italy is “concerned that there should be no escalation, that there are no people who have nothing to do with this clash who remain in the midst of what is a legitimate reaction by Israel,” said the defence minister.
Crosetto added that “the objective of the entire international community must be that there is no escalation”.
Crosetto went on to say that Italy was prepared to commit to managing humanitarian corridors from Gaza.
“Italy has never backed down, should the international community and the UN ask for a peace commitment of this kind we would be the first to do so, but now no one has asked for something similar”, he said after the NATO ministerial meeting.
