“We’ve had a seven-week-old baby boy who has tested COVID positive and the baby is a close contact of known cases,” NSW Chief Medical Officer Dr Kerry Chant said during a press conference this morning.
“The source of that infection for that family cluster is not known but the patient was admitted to hospital and assessed but was actually not admitted.”
It comes as NSW ramped up its testing for the virus, expanding the criteria to anybody with even mild symptoms.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said almost 5000 NSW residents were tested on Thursday.
Berejiklian said she was “extremely pleased” so many people came forward.
She said people who work with vulnerable people should especially be tested.
The premier said intensive care beds have already been doubled, and today more plans were being made to care for people once they were out of ICU.
